International Publication Achievement in the Field of Hydropower by Our Faculty Members

The recent studies conducted by our faculty members and researchers on hydroelectric energy systems have been published in prestigious international journals in 2025, contributing significantly to the scientific literature. Focusing on energy efficiency, turbine optimization, and cavitation effects, these three distinct publications stand out with their innovative approaches in the field.

Predicting Turbine Efficiency Using Machine Learning

The article titled "Machine learning-based efficiency prediction of Francis type hydraulic turbines through comprehensive performance testing", co-authored by our Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ Çelebioğlu, and distinguished faculty member Prof. Dr. Yiğit Taşçıoğlu, presents a machine learning-based model to predict the efficiency of Francis-type hydraulic turbines by analyzing extensive performance data. The proposed model offers a significant step toward digital transformation in the performance evaluation processes of hydropower plants.

Improving Efficiency of Old Turbines

Another notable publication titled "Enhancing efficiency of an old hydropower plant turbine through a mutual runner design and component optimization", authored by Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ Çelebioğlu, Research Assistant Oğuzhan Ulucak, and Ph.D. student Aslı Beril Ejder, focuses on redesigning an outdated hydropower plant turbine. The study demonstrates that through mutual runner design and component optimization, considerable improvements in turbine efficiency can be achieved. This work presents valuable engineering solutions for modernizing existing infrastructure.

A Novel Approach to Mitigating Cavitation Effects

The article titled "Mitigating cavitation effects on Francis turbine performance: A two-phase flow analysis", co-authored by Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ Çelebioğlu and Prof. Dr. Yiğit Taşçıoğlu, investigates the negative impact of cavitation on Francis turbines through a two-phase flow modeling approach. The study offers important technical insights for enhancing turbine performance and ensuring long-term operational stability.

These publications reflect our university's interdisciplinary research vision and provide pioneering contributions in key areas such as sustainability, digitalization, and artificial intelligence integration within energy systems. We congratulate our esteemed faculty members and researchers on these valuable achievements.
