A research study conducted by Rsc. Asst. Mehmet Öksüz and Dr. Behzat Bahadır Kentel from the Faculty of Engineering at TED University was presented at the 2nd IFToMM International Symposium on Emerging Fields in Mechanism and Machine Science (EFI-MMS 2026), held in Monastir, Tunisia. The symposium brought together researchers from around the world to discuss emerging topics in mechanism and machine science, including computational kinematics, biomechanics, robotics, and multibody dynamics.
The study, entitled "Development of a Two-Degree-of-Freedom Model of Forearm for Pronation-Supination Motion," introduces a novel biomechanical model that more accurately represents the complex kinematics of the human forearm. Unlike conventional forearm models, the proposed approach incorporates both the rotational and translational motion of the ulna while representing the Moving Rotation Axis (MRA) as a dynamically varying axis throughout pronation-supination motion. This provides a more anatomically consistent representation of forearm kinematics while maintaining low computational complexity.
The proposed model offers a robust foundation for future research in rehabilitation engineering, upper-limb biomechanics, ergonomic assessment, and the development of robotic and assistive technologies.
